Did you grow up in a musical family, or did you wish you lived in a home with spontaneous musical moments? Welcome to Adela & Tom’s Flamenco. Bring your guitar, your voice, your percussion or your dance moves, we are ready for you (well, we still have a reno to complete). Never mind your age or experience in performing arts. Flamenco is accessible to all ages and we assume that if you are in Calgary, your exposure to flamenco is limited, if at all. We are beginner friendly. Connect with us over flamenco!

At it roots, flamenco is an art that developed as a way for people to connect using singing, guitar and dancing in order to process the good and bad of the day(s) that had preceded. Over time, the music, songs and dance steps evolved such that the nuances of universal human experiences are captured in its essence. It includes songs that move through grief, sadness, anger, happiness, joy and more. It is simply impossible to experience flamenco, without being transformed/transported. Flamenco is more than an art, it’s also more than a fun alternative to fitness (mental and physical), the wisdom in its traditional structures force us to stop, notice, live and experience “the moment” together.

In addition to studios for classes and rehearsal/practice, we will also provide an informal space to “do” flamenco. Flamenco is improvised and there is no reason to only do it on a stage. We will have a lounge modelled after the living room at Adela and Tom’s house. The lounge will be filled with flamenco books, record albums and other things meant to inspire spontaneous flamenco moments among our community members. Classes can be used to give you ideas, we hope you stick around and jam in our lounge before or after class.

If you have a great day, or an awful day; there is a flamenco for that. You don’t need to be a great artist to participate (though you may surprise yourself), you just need to be a person with at least a day’s worth of emotional baggage…
